Response: "Rating Women, it's a huge NO!" Blog 8
I totally agree with you when you say that the media feeds us fake forms of beauty. The media uses sexual appeal in their advertisement to encourage consumers to buy a certain product. In addition, I also agree with you when you say " We need to empower women and all forms of beauty, not try to fit them all into one mold", but you should know that men feel the same way. The media tells us guys that if we don't have a rip six pack and a big chest like taylor lautner then were scrawny and unattractive. However, I believe that how much the media influences you depends on your current self-esteem. According to "The Truth About Women and Self-Esteem" by Susan Nolen-Hoeksema, " before adolescence, girls have a range of interests and strong opinions about the world. As they enter dating age, however, girls lose their "voice" as they confront demands to become subservient and silent in order to be attractive to males", and i believe that Susan brings up a good point. Many women I know learn to accept themselves and their flaws later in life, but everyone mimics the attractive women on popular magazines in their younger years. I think that it is only a phase in your life, and it may be short or it could last for the rest of your life. However, I believe that all women with good personalities are beautiful. Women use make up, eyeliner, blush, ect because they feel physically ugly, but trust me that can only go so far in life.

Pentagon policy on sexual assault not enough
I believe that illegal aliens should not be allowed to stay in the United States for many reasons. People refer to immigrants as "illegal aliens", but immigrants are people that come to a certain place to find a new life. Immigrants follow the law, however, illegal aliens are people that migrate to other countries and believe that they are above the law. Illegal aliens are not concerned with the well being of society, instead they only care about themselves and how they can benefit from the land. I believe that we should take a stand, but i also believe that we should allow immigrants to come to the U.S. if they follow procedures and follow the law of the land. Arizona has already taken then first step by requesting individual state immigration laws, the New York Times stated: "Indeed, it's hard to make the case that states and cities should have no right to protect themselves from the consequences of federal inaction. States can't negate federal laws, but there are productive ways for them to cooperate with federal authorities, particularly in the workplace, because jobs are the main magnet that draws illegal immigrants here"(AZ immigration law might be legal, but not smart). I believe that each state should have their own immigration laws, because some states don't mind illegal immigrants while other do. However, I understand why this topic is controversial because states want individual power while the government believe that this would invade federal law. Immigration is not bad, but people that ignore our societies rules will not be unpunished. Throughout the editorial, the writer brings up solid evidence and and backs their claim very well.

Response: Contraception Controversy (blog stage 6)
Contraception Controversy
http://ctalamantez.blogspot.com/2012/03/contraception-controversy.html
I agree with you Christy, I think the new law taking effect on August 1 2012 will help young teens. However, I understand why the Catholic Church is against free contraception. The Catholic Church believes that this will tempt young teens to have sex before marriage and of course, that is a very serious sin. However, in Obama team defends birth control policy Obama stated "No individual health care provider will be forced to prescribe contraception: The president and this administration have previously and continue to express strong support for existing conscience protections. For example, no Catholic doctor is forced to write a prescription for contraception". Teens in our generation are getting more comfortable about sex, but I believe that you should be protected at all times. With the new contraception law, the teen pregnancy rate should decline. I believe in the saying " better safe then sorry", sex is no longer considered the same as it was before.

Health care for everyone!!!
Health insurance is used when people suddenly get sick, have an emergency and have to visit the hospital, or for any other emergency. Health care is not required, but it is recommended because it is responsible and helps us when we are in an emergency. In the article Health care, yes.Broccoli,no, " Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to point out the rationale behind the individual mandate: "The people who don't participate in (the health insurance) market are making it much more expensive for the people who do", which brings up a good issue. Should the government require everyone to have health insurance or is that against our individual rights? In Health care, yes.Broccoli,no the writer states how required health care would be expensive at first, but the prices would eventually go down if everyone contributed and got health insurance. This policy has been used in seven other states; which led to lower health care premiums. The seven states also had no problems and the government was able to tax everyone because everyone had health care and it was fair. The writer was fairly creditable because he/she editorial was clear and the editorial was well written, and he/she also had good facts to support their topic. The government doesn't want to force everyone to get health insurance, but requiring health insurance would lower prices and also keep everyone financially safe during emergencies. I feel as if health insurance should be one of American families top priority because you know what could happen.

The Importance of Car industries
I came across an article called Auto bailout worked, candidates should admit it describing whether bailing out General Motors(GM) and Chrysler was a necessary. George W. Bush started the government bailout for GM and Chrysler in 2008, which was continued by Barack Obama. Many politicians disagreed with George W. Bush decision because they thought that the money could be used for better causes and that the car industry would not succeed. However, the rescue of GM and Chrysler had succeed and is now profitable. If the government had not bailed out GM and Chrysler, then every car in the U.S. would be imported from other nations. If every car was imported, then that would lead to money flowing out of the country and into foreign nations. In addition, many workers would have lost their jobs and the government would've had to pay for the workers benefits and much more. Politicians doubted whether this bailout would succeed or not, and they have just been proven wrong. According to this article, "Last year, GM sold more vehicles than any other automaker in the world... and the domestic auto industry as a whole has added 207,000 jobs since June 2009". The author of this article wanted the politicians to admit that George W. Bush and Barack Obama made the right decision. I also think that the author is credible because they provided solid statistics and good arguments about whether the bailout was worth it or not. In the end, what the author said is true because GM and Chrysler are back on there feet and the company will remain profitable.

Same Sex Marriage okay or not okay?
I read an
article from USA Today that was published February 9, 2012 called California same-sex marriage ruling tied in knots. The article stated that same sex marriage
in California would be void, but not completely. For example, "Same-sex couples cannot marry, but they also
cannot be deprived of any of the rights and privileges the state bestows on
married couples", but law allowed the 18,000 people that were already married to stay
married. This new decision will not hold, because California cannot
please both religious and civil groups. The article gave possible
ideas to please both religious and civil sides. One idea was to have
marriage for all, and this meant that the church would decide whether to marry
same sex or refuse them completely. However, I think this would
just separate one church from another, and led to problems between
churches. I think that the author intended this article to be for everyone to
see because it has always been a sensitive subject and everyone has his or her
own opinion about this topic. I thought that the author was
very credible because they seemed knowledgeable about the topic and
gave possible solutions about gay marriage. The article
was interesting because I never thought gay marriage would be so
heated between religious and civil groups. In my own opinion, I think
that gay marriage should be allowed. Why should we decide who can marry who? It
is their own business and no one should have the right to decide for them.
However, I can understand why religious groups are so against it. Same sex
marriage is not allowed in the bible, but i believe that god made us unique in our
own special way.

Dont be a fool....... wrap your tool
Obama team defends birth control policy
The Obama administration is currently "requiring religious employers to provide birth control through there insurance policy." The Administration is requiring the employers to have contraception in there insurance policys, but that doesn't mean anyone has to use it. The administration stated that no one will be forced to buy or use the contraception, and they also stated that the insurance is not covering any drugs that causes abortion. What's ironic is that the bible says, " You must be married before having sex." The Obama administration just want teens to be safe, and that means " dont be a fool, wrap your tool." Many religious and political leaders believe that the administration is violating the rights of the religious community. However, I think that it is better to be safe then sorry. Sex before marriage is not okay, but being pregnant and not being married is so much worse. This article is definitely worth reading because it reaches out to the younger crowd.
